23 oktober: "What if the origin of western abstract art was female AND collaborative? Five women - Hilma, Anna, Cornelia, Mathilda, Sigrid - spent ten years meeting regularly (1896-1906) to explore spirituality, gender, and art. They called themselves “The Five.” The drawings they made in their weekly seances inspired Hilma af Klint’s paintings.

It has only recently been recognised that Hilma preceded Kandinsky with her abstract work. Yet if we explore history through a feminine lens, perhaps it isn’t just about replacing male icons with female icons - but rather questioning the insistence on singular geniuses also? Whoever did anything alone?"
