In Harry Potter, Hermione’s great love story is (spoiler alert) with Ron Weasley. However, Matthew Lewis, who played Neville in the series, secretly wanted to change all of that IRL.

In a new interview, Matthew revealed that he had a huge crush on Emma Watson during the filming of the first few movies. “I probably had a crush on Emma for a couple of years, until I was 13 or 14 — something like that,” he told Seventeen. And then, just like that, he crushed our dreams of a Neville-Hermione love story. “I mean nothing ever came of it, anyway. It never went anywhere.”

But he did mention that the two engaged in some secret flirty written exchanges. In fact, the entire cast of Harry Potter was exchanging love potions — ahem, we mean notes — back and forth constantly. Gasp. “There was always Valentine’s Day — everyone would write secret Valentine’s cards to different people. I think on the second [film] there was like love notes and love letters flying around…It was just exactly what you would imagine you would get in any high school, just we happen to be in a film studio.” He continued, “Effectively for us, it was like being in school. We started tutoring on set and we were on set all the time, so I think that everyone had crushes on everyone else at some point.”

Of course, in real life, Matthew Lewis is now happily married. But still, we can’t help but wonder what could have been between the actor and his former costar — or what other off-screen *magic* romances we totally missed out on.

‘I’m intrigued to see where the storyline goes after the Beast transforms. Anything could happen’

‘We’re wearing black because this is a moment in time, it’s not the beginning of a movement or the end of a movement, but it is a moment in time that we stand in solidarity with women across all spheres of life, with women across industries, basically saying time’s up on violence against women.’

Dit zal het boek ‘Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race’ van schrijfster Reni Eddo-Lodge zijn.

Dear OSS,

There is so much racism, both in our past and present, that is not acknowledged and accounted for. I know this to be the case from my own education, and I know there is so much more for me to learn. This is why I’m excited to announce that our first book of 2018 is Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge which talks about the history of racism in Britain, and ways we can see, acknowledge and challenge racism. I am not supposed to have favourites, however this was the most important book for me this year.

When I gave my UN speech in 2015, so much of what I said was about the idea that “being a feminist is simple!” Easy! No problem! I have since learned that being a feminist is more than a single choice or decision. It’s an interrogation of self. Every time I think I’ve peeled all the layers, there’s another layer to peel. But, I also understand that the most difficult journeys are often the most worthwhile. And that this process cannot be done at anyone else’s pace or speed.

When I heard myself being called a “white feminist” I didn’t understand (I suppose I proved their case in point). What was the need to define me — or anyone else for that matter — as a feminist by race? What did this mean? Was I being called racist? Was the feminist movement more fractured than I had understood? I began…panicking.

It would have been more useful to spend the time asking myself questions like: What are the ways I have benefited from being white? In what ways do I support and uphold a system that is structurally racist? How do my race, class and gender affect my perspective? There seemed to be many types of feminists and feminism. But instead of seeing these differences as divisive, I could have asked whether defining them was actually empowering and bringing about better understanding. But I didn’t know to ask these questions.

I met a woman this year named Happy who works for an organization called Mama Cash and she told me this about her long history working in the women’s sector: “Call me out. But if you’re going to call me out, walk alongside me as I do the work”. Working alongside women like Happy is a privilege. As human beings, as friends, as family members, as partners, we all have blind spots; we need people that love us to call us out and then walk with us while we do the work.

This has been an amazing two years for me, working on Our Shared Shelf. There were moments when I wondered whether the club should be an ongoing thing. Thank you for making me sure that it would be crazy not to keep going in 2018.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed, laid themselves bare, been patient and compassionate or shared useful information with other members of the community. Thanks to those who hid books and posted their photos to Instagram, or started a talking circle or smaller club and met up in different parts of the world.

Everyone has their own journey, and it may not always be easy, but what I can promise is that you’ll meet some extremely cool people that you will REALLY love and respect along the way that will walk this path with you. You’re not alone. And even if you are, in a particular moment…remember you come from a long line of feminists who did this work, in the outside world but also inside themselves. As we move into 2018, I hope Reni Eddo-Lodge’s book empowers and inspires you as much as it has me. I am looking forward to discussing it in more detail with you soon.

Love,
Emma xx

Although John Boyega has previously starred in projects like Attack the Block and 24: Live Another Day, it was after appearing in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as Finn that his acting career soared to new heights. Besides reprising Finn for The Last Jedi and Episode IX, Boyega has been cast in a number of other high-profile movies, including The Circle, where he performed alongside Emma Watson. When The Circle’s principal photography was winding down, Boyega found himself struggling with one of the scenes, but fortunately Watson was around to help him work through it with some advice on how to recall his lines. Boyega recalled:

My second to last day, I had a big speech that basically put the whole movie in context for the audience, and I just froze up. I froze up and I forgot the whole thing. I was there with Emma Watson, who was amazing about it. And I found myself in an Acting 101 class, with Emma trying to say, ‘Just remember the lines. What are your motivations?’ And I just couldn’t get it. It was embarrassing.

In order for John Boyega to make it through this scene, The Circle’s crew as forced to shoot it “chunk by chunk” rather than in one take. Boyega also informed his fellow actors at THR’s Actor Roundtable that this experience led him to realize that this issue he was dealing with was a “fear of schedule,” as he now finds himself being pressured with having more projects to work on. Regardless, Emma Watson’s advice to him was no doubt appreciated, and for any actors out there who find themselves struggling with lines, it never hurts to follow the Beauty and the Beast star’s cue and recall your character’s motivations. That by itself may not get the job done immediately, but it’s a good start.

Even though Star Wars: The Force Awakens was what introduced John Boyega to many people, 2017 has unquestionably been his biggest year yet. First he appeared as Ty Lafitte in The Circle, which was directed by James Ponsoldt and also starred Tom Hanks. That movie went on to make $40.6 million worldwide, but was met with negative critical reception. Next, Boyega appeared as Melvin Dismukes in Detroit, which only made $21.3 million worldwide, but was met with many positive reviews and could be a contender for the upcoming awards season. Finally, we’ll see Boyega back in the Star Wars universe for The Last Jedi, where Finn will go on an important mission for The Resistance. No doubt more projects are heading his way for the coming years, so let’s hope he heeds Watson’s earlier advice for those times when he fails to recall what he’s supposed to say next, not to mention keeps mindful about his scheduling.

John Boyega can be seen next in Star Wars: The Last Jedi on December 15, and then he’ll be back for Pacific Rim Uprising on March 23, 2018.

‘I want to be consistent. I can’t talk about my boyfriend in an interview and then expect people not to take paparazzi pictures of me walking around outside my home,’ zei ze in februari tegen Vanity Fair. ‘You can’t have it both ways.’

I’m afraid I don’t comment on my client’s personal life.’
