Emma reageert op schandaal rondom producer Harvey Weinstein

Emma is één van de vele beroemdheden die zich uitspreek over seksuele intimidatie nadat het schandaal rondom producer Harvey Weinstein bekend werd.

Joining a growing roster of celebrities, Emma Watson and Colin Firth have come forward to condemn Harvey Weinstein and applaud the women who have spoken out about Weinstein’s alleged sexual harassment and misconduct.

Watson, who worked with Weinstein on her 2011 film “My Week with Marilyn,” tweeted that she “stands with all the women who have been sexually harassed, and am awestruck by their bravery.” She did not say whether she herself had been subjected to or witnessed Weinstein’s alleged abuse.

“This mistreatment of women has to stop,” said Watson, who is known to be a strong advocate for women’s rights and was named a Women Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations in 2014. The 27-year-old Harry Potter star said she also stood with “all the men, indeed any person, who has suffered sexual harassment.”

Volgens Forbes is Emma #6 op de lijst van best betaalde actrices in 2017, met dank aan het succes van ‘Beauty And The Beast’. Op #1 staat ‘La La Land’ actrice Emma Stone.

Brit Emma Watson (No. 6) is this year’s sole newcomer after depositing her paycheck for Beauty and the Beast, which grossed $1.26 billion to become the top-grossing movie of the year so far. Though tech drama The Circle flopped, she managed to make $14 million in our time frame, thanks to the Mouse House.

“Every kid who grew up on Harry Potter felt instantly comfortable seeing Emma Watson on screen; even if she wasn’t Hermione Granger, she was Belle,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at industry tracker ComScore. “[Disney] could have plugged in any actor into that role but it wouldn’t have had that magic.”

Emma Watson vraagt hulp bij zoektocht ringen

Emma Watson is drie ringen kwijt die speciale betekenis voor haar hebben. Ze schakelde woensdag Facebook in om te proberen ze terug te vinden.

In een post schrijft de Harry Potter-actrice dat ze de ringen in een kluis had opgeborgen in het Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Londen, waar ze een spa-behandeling onderging. Ze vergat ze daarna op te halen en toen ze later contact zocht met het hotel, bleken de sieraden verdwenen.

„Als dit zomaar wat ringen zouden zijn kon ik dit accepteren, maar een ervan was een cadeau van mijn moeder. Ze kocht hem de dag na mijn geboorte en heeft hem elke dag gedragen, achttien jaar lang zonder hem af te doen. Op mijn achttiende verjaardag gaf ze ’m aan mij. Ik draag deze ring elke dag, het is mijn meest betekenisvolle en speciale bezit.”

Emma vraagt mensen die de ringen hebben gezien of ze „per ongeluk” hebben meegenomen zich te melden. De actrice belooft dat diegene zich niet hoeft te verantwoorden. „Er zijn geen woorden voor hoeveel het voor mij zou betekenen als ik ze terugkreeg.”

Emma heeft voor Entertainment Weekly schrijfster Margaret Atwood over haar boek The Handmaid’s Tale. De boek is nu recent verfilmd in gelijknamige serie op streamingsdienst Hulu.

Many celebrities have book clubs, but none share the clout of Emma Watson’s “Our Shared Shelf,” which has picked up nearly 200,000 members since it launched on Goodreads in 2016. As Watson wrote when she made The Handmaid’s Tale her May/June selection, “It is a book that has never stopped fascinating readers because it articulates so vividly what it feels like for a woman to lose power over her own body.” Thanks to the recent Hulu series, Atwood’s 1985 dystopian novel has again soared to the top of the best-seller lists. Watson called up Atwood to discuss.

Watson: You were living in West Berlin when you wrote The Handmaid’s Tale in 1984; it was before the wall came down. Was being in a divided city a big influence on the novel or had you been thinking about it before you arrived in Berlin? I’d love to know how the novel came about.
Atwood: I had been thinking about it before I’d arrived, and at that time — when I was in West Berlin—I also visited Czechoslovakia and East Germany and Poland. They weren’t revelations, because being as old as I am I knew about life behind the Iron Curtain, but it was very interesting to be right inside, to sense the atmosphere. East Germany was the most repressed, Czechoslovakia the second, and Poland was relatively wide open, which explains why Poland was where the Cold War wall first cracked. So it was very interesting to be there, but it wasn’t the primary inspiration.
