De Amerikaanse streamingsdienst HBO zendt op 1 januari 2022 de nieuwe ‘Harry Potter’ special uit genaamd Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts. Hierin zullen ‘Steen der Wijzen’ regisseur Chris Columbus, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint en vele andere castleden uit alle 8 films in te zien zijn. Met deze special viert de streamingdienst de verjaardag van de franchise: het is precies twintig jaar geleden dat Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in première ging.
Voorals nog is bekend dat overige castleden Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps en Oliver Phelps ook te zien zullen zijn in de special waarin met interview teruggeblikt zal worden op het maken van de films.
Emma deelt het volgende op haar instagram over de aankomende special:
“Harry Potter was my home, my family, my world and Hermione (still is) my favorite fictional character of all time. I think a journalist once said it was irritating how many times during an interview I mentioned how lucky I was and started counting… BUT I DAMN WELL KNEW!!! And still know.
I am proud not just of what we as group contributed as actors to the franchise but also as the children that became young adults that walked that path. I look at my fellow cast members now and I am just so proud of who everyone has become as people. I am proud we were kind to each other that we supported one another and that we held up something meaningful.
Thank you to the fans that have continued to show their support well after the last chapter closed. The magic of the world wouldn’t exist without you. Thank you for fighting to make it such an inclusive and loving place.
I still miss the crew who made these films all the time. Thank you for all of your hard work too – I know your contributions sometimes get overlooked.

In een interview heeft regisseur Chris Columbus dat de eerste versie van ‘Harry Potter en de Steen der Wijzen’ die aan voor test publiek in Chigago te zien was 3 uur lang was. Reacties van ouders waren toen dat de film te lang was en de kinderen vonden de film te kort. Hierna is de film toch ingekort en zijn vooral de scenes van Peeves (aka Foppe de Klopgeest) verwijderd werden. Hij laat weten dat Peeves terug moet in de film daarop de de hastag #ReleaseThePeevesCut trending geworden op twitter in de hoop dat de lange versie van ‘Harry Potter en de Steen der Wijzen’ er gaat komen.
